OLEKSANDR

Oleksandr is someone who believes that even in the hardest moments, life is still worth engaging with fully. A musician at heart, he spends his free time playing in a band. For him, the Ukrainian language is not just a hobby—they’re a form of cultural resilience and hope.

Living in Kyiv during a time of war has shaped his outlook, but it hasn’t taken away his belief in the future. He makes a conscious effort to stay positive, not by ignoring reality, but by choosing to focus on what still brings meaning: creativity, friendship, and love for his country. He carries Ukraine with him in everything he does, whether on stage or in everyday life, and hopes to share his love for his language and country beyond borders.

ALINA

Alina is a marketing professional based in Odessa. She made the difficult decision to stay in the city despite the fear and unpredictability that come with war. For her, staying is an act of quiet strength and commitment to her people and the place she calls home.

Through her work, Alina organizes events designed to bring people together, offering moments of connection and hope for the future. Beyond her professional life, Alina is a mother of two, and her family is at the center of everything she does. She enjoys cooking traditional Ukrainian meals (see our Culture section for more information) and inviting her friends and family to her house. She hopes you will appreciate the News articles and section with the best Ukraine has to offer the world.

VIKTOR

After fighting at the front and seriously injuring his legs, his life took a different direction. A teacher before the war, today he focuses on teaching his native language to foreigners arriving to Ukraine from abroad. Those who know Viktor describe him as relentlessly energetic, a quality that surprises many given everything he has been through.

Outside of work, Viktor enjoys playing video games, especially first-person shooters, such as Chornobyl (proudly made in Ukraine!). Through teaching Viktor tries to move forward, and prove that resilience can take many forms and that purpose often grows out of the hardest chapters of life. Слава Україні!

TETYANA

Tetyana is a photographer based in Ivano-Frankivsk. She uses her camera to capture the parts of Ukraine that often go unnoticed these days — the elegant buildings, picturesque streets and natural scenery that reflect the country’s character and spirit. At a time when so many images focus on destruction, she tries through her work to offer a different perspective on Ukraine.

She hopes that her photos will inspire your curiosity and motivation, encouraging you to start or continue learning the beautiful Ukrainian language and connect more deeply with the Ukrainian people.

SERHII

Through his travel agency he used to spend much of his time moving across Ukraine, introducing people to its history, culture, and lesser-known stories. Since the war began, his focus has shifted toward creating content for those who were evacuated abroad, as well as for people who want to reconnect with their Ukrainian roots.

He says that his work has become a way of preserving memory and identity, especially for those experiencing distance and displacement. When he’s not on the road or working on new projects, Serhii enjoys slowing down with a game of chess or drinking with his friends (not at the same time).

VIKTORIIA

Viktoriia remembers the end of the Soviet Union and the profound changes that followed, moments that shaped both her personal and professional life. For many years, she worked at a university, where education and language were central to her daily work, before later becoming a translator at official events.

Today he hopes to share her deep love for her native language and to see it revived and embraced across all of society, especially by younger generations. Outside of her professional life, she finds joy in spending time with her nephews, playing games with them, or challenging herself with crossword puzzles.
